Hot in the City

This is about the life of Miss Mo, a 30-something gal who recently moved back to Singapore from the US.

Hey Shorty! It's My Birthday!

Yeah! My birthday is finally approaching. Hey, since I can't help growing a year older (none the wiser), I should celebrate being wiser, right?

My lovely coworkers organized a birthday lunch for me on Friday, when all the big bosses were out. I chose to go to Shin Kushiya, a Japanese grill restaurant at Vivocity. A couple of us ordered the set lunch, which consisted of sticks of meatballs, mushrooms, asparagus, chicken teriyaki, miso soup and rice. All for less than $20, which was pretty decent. I was so happy that they wanted to celebrate my birthday. The best thing was they even bought me a surprise birthday lychee cake! Yippee! Happy!

In the evening, I went to AllyMc to check out this restaurant Pier Eleven, which is situated at the Marina South Pier. It serves European food (I think) but the good thing about the restaurant is it has a romantic atmosphere of facing the waters and watching the boats dock. These boats go to the southern islands. I would check out these islands one of these days.

Saturday, I met up with my twin for high tea at Melt Cafe, one of the newer buffet places at the newly renovated Mandarin Oriental hotel at Marina Bay. The spread was mainly desserts and sweets with a small section of hot food. We still prefer the good old buffet with lots of hot food so doubt we'd return to Melt for high tea.

In the evening, I proceeded to Holland Village to meet up with the ex-quitters of Singapore. It happened to be May 5 so we chose to celebrate at Cha Cha Cha, a Mexican restaurant. It was not a fancy restaurant but the service was pretty slow. I guess they were shorthanded. Anyway, we ordered margaritas and cheers to me being forever beautiful!

The food was so-so but I always like Mexican food; the cheese, the meat, the tacos, the beans and the rice. Delicious! Thanks to the ex-quitters! Hurray!

Sunday, another round of birthday celebrations. This time, I met up with Cooking Diva and Musa for brunch at Pierside Restaurant and Bar at One Fullerton. It just started serving brunch last month so I was so eager to try their Eggs Benedict. True to my expectations, they serve pretty decent eggs benedict. Musa ordered her wagyu beef burger with foie gras and truffle creme. Delicoius! Cooking Diva ordered a crayfish omelette. We all had our mimosas, martinis, mojitos and caprinhas. It was a great dining experience. It was really nice just to hang out on a Sunday afternoon. By the time we left around 3pm, we were the only ones left in the restaurant!

I really enjoyed my birthday weekend! Thanks to all my friends and coworkers. Getting fat was worth it. Another dinner tomorrow and more to come in Vietnam!
