Hot in the City

This is about the life of Miss Mo, a 30-something gal who recently moved back to Singapore from the US.

Miss Mo goes Dating

I really don't understand men in Singapore.

There's this IT guy KH. I've only met him once and since then he has been sms-ing me occasionally. It's always those silly sms messages like 'What are you doing?', 'What did you have for lunch?'. Arrgh!

It's becoming annoying now because it's the World Cup season. Whenever he finishes watching a match, he was send a sms telling me the result of the match and his short analysis. At first, for his first world cup sms, I replied. Then when the 2nd and 3rd, etc smses came in after each match, it started to annoy me. I don't even bother to reply from the second sms onwards.

I wonder whether he's lonely or what. Does he have any clue that nobody really cares about his world cup report? I can actually read from the internet to get the results?

I feel mean to tell him to stop sending me sms. What should I do? Right now, I'm just deleting the sms. Should I tell him 'Please don't send me anymore world cup updates. I know what's going on.' Or I can choose to just delete the sms till the end of world cup. Doesn't he get that since I haven't been responding, he should just stop sending me world cup updates?!? So f'king clueless!

My Mizunos

Here're my new pair of running shoes. See how persistent I can be with this running and losing weight. Then I would wear my bikinis and show off. Yes!

Can anyone give me a suggestion on how I can tell these guys to stop sms-ing me and, if they're interested, they should just call. I want to be tactful and not rude. Care to share some of your experience?

I really can't say enough about the sms dating culture in Singapore. This gets even worse.

I received an email from self-claimed NTU-EEE-graduate guy called XF. XF wrote that he would like to know me sincerely and asked for my cell to sms. I gave him my cell because I'm too fed up to even discuss with them about the real use of a cellphone, ie to talk, not sms.

So here're real quotes from XF's sms. Please note that I have saved these smses so that I can share them with you.

"you reply very long for afternoon :p. where you? later you come msn?"
"how are you weekend? Last night waited for you ler"
"I reply your email. chat msn?"
"oic so early go out liao got places to go mei morning hehe. I ask you n70 better or6280. so late home tonight again?"
"cheeyan what is your religion? do no need to go to the church every sunday"
"How your day? Taken lunch?"

Can somebody rescue me? Am I fussy or can you not stand the grammar here? How can someone be so atrocious in his English? It's bad beyond words! Yikes! I don't know but I don't think I can communicate with someone whose English is that bad. Can you?

Miss Mo goes to Phuket

I was in Phuket the past weekend. My gf, YDD, had a company trip and she invited me along. It was my first trip to Phuket and my second trip to Thailand. Can you believe it?!?

It was a package tour so we had to go to some places which I wasn't that interested in. On the first evening, we went to watch this Fantasea Show, which was held in a theme park filled with carnival games. It's the Thai version of Wildwood. Remember? The show was held in a mega theater. They had cultural performances which were boring. The most interesting part was the finale where they had around 20 elephants performing on the stage. We could touch the baby elephants before the show but I was, as always, too chicken to touch it. They also allowed us to take pictures with baby tigers. Scary!

The next day was filled with temple tours and catered shopping, which were boring activities. However, we went to take ATV (aka quad) rides in the afternoon. That was so much fun. We rode the ATV through the muddy field and jungle, up and down slopes.

We went to Phi Phi the next day. The snokeling was so fun. The fishes were so near me that it freaked me out at first. The fishes were so colorful. How I wish I have pictures to show you. However, the speedboat ride back to Phuket was horrifying. The sea was so rough; it was as if we were in the 'Perfect Storm' movie. The life jackets were all layed on the floor of the boat, so that we could all grab one in case something happened. Even the captain was nervous. The boat was literally flying into the air and landing hard on the sea. Imagine taking a roller-coaster ride for an hour or more with no island in sight and with not enough life jackets. All the passengers were so nervous.

This morning before I departed, we went for go-karting. That was lotsa fun too.

Oh, I also went to watch a Thai-girl show. I expected more 'action' but they disappointed me. One of the girl had such fake boobs. She didn't have a cleavage. Her boobs were stuck together! I should have taken a pic!

Miss Mo goes to the museums

I went to the Arts House last Friday evening. There is a photo exhibition on Henri Cartier-Besson. It was free and I haven't done the museum thing in Singapore so I thought I should check it out.

The Arts House is situated in a nice colonial building near the Parliament house and Empress Place. I love that area. There is even a Thai restaurant called 1827 in the same building. I'm not sure about during the daytime but in the evening, the place's lovely, with the Victoria concert hall nearby. It's not crowded and cooling out there.

After the museum visit, I took a stroll to City Hall, walking along City Hall, passed the Padang. It was a really nice walk. For once, I didn't feel there were so many people in Singapore!

Miss Mo in HK streetwear

Remember the store that has Carina Lau Kah Ling as the model? She would wear tai-tai-ish-looking clothes that you would die to be seen in. Then another similar store emerged with that Sammi Cheng as the model and they sell clothes with tacky designs and colors.

Guess what? I'm always amazed that I always can get clothes from that place and at a decent price. The last time, I bought a skirt at half price, which was around $25. Last night I bought another skirt at $69 but I could at another piece free at same price or lower. They always have genuine deals! Do check out this store!

Remember the IT guy SC that I went out with once to the Bontanic Gardens and I kind of like? SC hasn't called back since. Waaaa!!!

Maybe SC lost his cellphone. Maybe SC is so busy with work. Perhaps SC lost my number. Perhaps SC thought I didn't like him. Should I drop SC an email since I have nothing to lose? I'm so full of face that so far, I hadn't done anything.

Can anyone advise me? You know I really want to know his side of the story.

SuperSt*r in NYC

New York City now is certainly not as hot as the Lion City, we are enjoying an unusually nice long Spring...the only thing is it rains just about everyday. I am watching tennis everyday too, I still can't stand Nadal and his big fat ass that is shoved into those white capris that seems one size too small...and sorry but i think his sleeveless shirts are so Wal-mart! what is he thinking?!?!! Did you notice that the spectators always cheered for Nadal's opponents during all his games? So who are you rooting for?

A lot of new cool bars and restaurants sprung up in our neighborhood...today i passed by a new Brazilian bar and they posted the World Cup schedule so people can go drinking and cheering at the bar. It reminds me of the time when we joined the crazy Greeks when Greece played against Portugal and won the European Cup. All of Astoria ran amok all of the sudden and we were like as if in Greece, people with painted face of Greek flag were like celebrating on the street, some dudes even jumped on cars wildly...so unforgettable...alas we are leaving soon, so sad... :(

anyways, so we are packing and packing and packing, and selling....guess how much we made over the week?? kekeke~~

World Cup is here

The World Cup is here at last. Tonight's the first game. I think I may stay up to watch it although I dont' like Germany. I hope they'll lose.

My favs are of course, the Azzuris. I know their Jerseys used to be designed by Giorgio Armani but not sure about this time. The Dutch and English also have my support.

It'd be a sleepless June!

Actually, let me take that back. Here in Singapore, most guys are so slow to ask me out. They would first communicate with you for many months before asking me out. I'll be lucky if it even last that long. You see, most will sms me on every little small thing which I'm too annoyed to reply. Only a handful would call and even if they call, they'd ask me silly questions.

Last night, Fatty M called me. The conversation of course involved his work. BORING...I was actually ok with him talking because I was actually watching this excellent tennis game between Henin-Hardenne and Cljisters. Then of course the standard questions popped up. "Chee Yan, where do you live?". I'm so mean but I'm really so sick of answering this question because how big is Singapore to make my answer relevant. "I live in the north.", I answered. "The north is pretty big", he commented. "Singapore is not that big. I live near AMK", I answered. "So which school did you go to?", he asked. I was going to shoot myself! "You tell me first.", trying to stall him. "You guess.", he said. "Just tell me, I don't feel like guessing." I replied. LOL! I'm soooo mean. "Well, I'm from a boys' school. Victoria." he gladly divulged. zzz..."I'm from St NIcholas." I answered. And of course, the standard response was "Oh, your Chinese must be pretty good." Urrgh!!!! "Which JC were you from then? I'm from VJC." he said. "Oh..." I responded. He asked why when I had that response when he mentioned VJC. I actually didn't know but I guessed it was because there was a good shot on the tv screen. LOL!

OK, enough said to put myself and you guys through this. Help me!

Miss Mo goes Dating

The Singapore guys are really getting on my nerve. I know I shouldn't stereotype but I just can't help it. I think the sms culture is partly to be blamed.

So, I met this guy online. Let's call him IT TT. We exchanged cell via emails and since then he has been smsing me but we have never talked on the phone! I really didn't mind it at first. But he's really getting on my nerve.

Here's what he sends:
"Hi Chee Yan. Getting off work soon? I'm going home now. Any plans tomorrow?"
My reply was:
"Still at work. I'm meeting my friends tomorrow. And you?"
Analysis - I really don't care whether you're going home. If you want to ask me out, then just ask. Don't ask what I will be doing tomorrow.

Yesterday at work, he sent a sms again. He wrote "Any plans tonight?" CY "I'm going to play tennis." He wrote "I'm too lazy to do any sports. Maybe we're not compatible." I thought "If that's what you think, then fine with me.:"
Then at around 9pm, he sent "Finished your tennis game?"
I didn't write back. At around 11+pm, he wrote "Chee Yan, what are you doing now?"
I think "Grrr....Do I have to tell you that I'm actually surfing the internet, doing nothing. I really don't want to waste 1 sms saying that."
I wrote "I just had a shower, going to bed soon.

Oh, IT TT is a strange bird too. He asked me once "Do you take health supplements?" I said "That's a strange question to ask. Why?" He texted "Oh, because I take. Everyday, I take fish pill, bee pollen, multivatimin, green tea extract, blah blah blah. It keeps me healthy and give me beautiful skin." Hmm...I think he can also exercise.

Help me! I really don't wish to communicate with him anyone. I think it's kind of waste of my time, energy and sms messages to communicate with him. But I feel rude just not texting him back. But it's kind of getting out of hand. I guess if he calls and chat, I really won't mind but this smsing to and fro is becoming annoying. But I'm not going to call him first.
